This includes 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 40 Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Indian institute of technology : IIT Placement package
The first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) was set up in 1951 in Kharagpur and presently the total number of IITs stands at 23. National Institute of technology : NIT placements
National Institutes of Technology (NIT) are autonomous engineering institutes that offer various undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree programs in Engineering and other fields. There are a total of 31 NITs in India and admission to BTech Programmes is managed through the JoSAA counselling process, based on AIR rank secured in JEE Main. NIT offers admission to MTech programmes based on the score obtained in the GATE exam while seat allotment is managed through CCMT (Centralized Counseling for MTech/MArch/MPlan/MDes).
NIT Trichy, NIT Karnataka, NIT Rourkela, NIT Warangal, NIT Calicut are some of the popular NITs across India. In the MHRD-NIRF ranking of 2024, NIT Trichy has been ranked 08 in India. Out of the total, 21 NITs are among the top 100 list. The NIT Council is the regulatory body for all the NITs. Most of the NITs in India offer degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various branches of Engineering, Architecture, Management and Science.

Government funded technical Institutes : GFTI Placements
GFTI colleges or Government Funded Technical Institutions are the premier higher educational institutes. GFTIs include Universities, Engineering and Architecture colleges that are funded by the Government of India. GFTI colleges also offer postgraduate courses such as MTech and MBA along with doctoral programmes in various specialisations. Admission to these courses is done on the basis of various national and state-level entrance exams such GATE, CAT etc. The University of Hyderabad, Assam University and Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, are some of the GFTIs in the country. The majority of the GFTIs in India also offer degree courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in streams such as Science, Humanities, Arts, etc.

Average salary vs Median Salary
How is Average Salary calculated?
You can calculate the average base, mean salary, or average salary by adding all the salaries for a select group of employees and then dividing the sum by the number of employees in the group.
Average Salary Example:
Employee 1 earns $40,000, Employee 2 earns $50,000, Employee 3 earns $100,000. The total of $190,000 is divided by 3, providing an average salary of $63,333.
The average salary represents what the “typical employee” earns and can be pulled higher or lower by high salaries or low salaries at the extreme ends of the distribution.
How is Median Salary calculated?
You can calculate the median base salary by arranging the salaries for a group of employees in descending order and then locating the salary that represents the midpoint of the distribution. Fifty percent of the salaries are less than the median and fifty percent of the salaries are greater than the median.
Median Salary Example:
Employee 1 earns $40,000, Employee 2 earns $50,000, Employee 3 earns $100,000. The salary in the middle, or the median salary is $50,000.
As the median salary represents a specific point in the distribution, it cannot be pulled higher or lower by salaries at the extreme ends of the distribution. It is therefore considered a more neutral measure of central tendency, especially in a small group of salaries where one extreme value can disproportionately affect the calculation of an average
