National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar is a government engineering institute. It was formed in 1967 as a Regional Engineering College, and in 2002, it was granted the status of NIT. The vision of the institute is to establish a unique identity by developing high-quality human and knowledge resources in the field of technology. The mission of NIT Silchar is to train young individuals and transform them into responsible engineers, scientists and technologists and inspire them to work towards the betterment of society. NIT Silchar is ranked 40 in the engineering category by NIRF 2024.

NIT Silchar offers several undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various specialisations. There are a total of 11 departments – Engineering (6), Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Humanities and Social Sciences and Management Studies. Each of these departments has a dedicated list of faculties. Each department undertakes several projects. The faculty members are involved in research in different areas of their subjects, which is funded partly by the institute and mostly by the funding agencies.

The highest and average package offered during NIT Silchar placements 2024 stood at INR 52.89 LPA and INR 13.54 LPA, respectively. Further, the median package offered during NIT Silchar placements 2024 stood at INR 10 LPA. Apart from this, more than 600 offers were made and 200 companies visited the campus during NIT Silchar placements 2024. National Institute of Technology Silchar is located on the Silchar-Hailakandi Road, 8kms away from the southern outskirts of Silchar town in Assam. It is well-connected with various cities through roads and railways. The nearest bus station is ISBT Silchar, from where you can pick an auto to reach the NIT Campus. The distance of the Silchar railway station from the campus is around 10 km. There are direct flights to Silchar from major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Imphal and Guwahati. NIT Silchar : Clubs, Committees and Societies

Gyansagar – Gyansagar is a social service initiative undertaken by the students of the institute. It works towards the development of society in terms of education, health awareness, job opportunities, etc. 

Gymkhana Union Body – It is the official body to look after overall students’ activity at the institute. It has three major divisions – sports committee, cultural committee and hostel affairs committee. 

Computer Science Society – It organises various activities like seminars, debates, quizzes and software contests for the professional and academic development of the students. 

Electronics and Communication Society – The E&T department has an active society called “Electronics Society” that promotes technical activities among the students.

NIT Silchar Campus Infrastructure

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar facilities on campus include an administration area, academic buildings, separate hostels for boys and girls, staff quarters, guest house, library, post office and students’ recreation and sports amenities. NIT Silchar has a playground for playing cricket, hockey, football and other games.

Other NIT Silchar facilities include a health centre with qualified medical officers and a full-computerized core-banking State Bank of India branch. There are also general provision stores, fax centres, DTP centres, PCOs, and bookshop facilities for students, faculty and staff members of the institute. The details of NIT Silchar facilities are mentioned below:

  • Boys HostelBoys Hostel– The Institute has got 8 Boys hostels. During the year under review, construction of 1000-bedded Boys Hostel No-9, 300-bedded PG Boys’ Hostel, and 100-bedded Married Scholar’s Hostel has been taken up. All the hostels have their individual Mess Management Committee to look after the fooding requirement for their borders.
  • Girls HostelGirls Hostel– The Institute has got 2 Girls hostels. During the year under review, construction. All the hostels have their borders Mess Management Committee to look after the fooding requirement for their borders.
  • Medical/HospitalMedical/Hospital – NIT Silchar has a health institute with a Senior Medical Officer. Apart from allopathic medicines, it also offers homeopathy and dental treatments.

  • LibraryLibrary- The central library of NIT Silchar was established in 1977. It is part of the LTT building with a 97,000 collection of documents of both printed and non-printed materials. The library has state-of-the-art technological applications and holds knowledge resources related to Science, Technology, Management, Humanities, Social Science and other related subjects.
  • SportsSports- The Institute has a playground measuring 150m X 90m with facility for playing football, Cricket, Hockey, and other games. The institute is also having a Sports Complex for providing various types of outdoor and indoor games to students of this Institute. NIT Silchar also has a hard court for playing basketball and is provided with hard courts for playing Volleyball and Badminton. It has got a Lawn Tennis court within the campus. NIT Silchar Cutoff

The admission authorities will release the JEE Main cutoff for MNIT Jaipur 2025 on the official website soon after the declaration of JEE Main 2025 result. The cutoff will be the minimum marks set by the authorities. MNIT Jaipur 2025 JEE Main cutoff will be released category-wise and will consist of opening and closing ranks. Candidates who will be able to secure a rank higher than the closing rank released by the authorities will be offered admission.

NOTE- All the mentioned ranks from Round 1 to Round 6 are JEE (Main) category-wise All India Ranks. NIT Silchar Fests & Cultural Activities

  • Incandescence – The annual cultural fest of NIT Silchar. It is one of the most awaited events of the college. This falls in the month of February. Students from various college from all over the country participate in this festival.
  • Tecnoesis- Tecnoesis is the technical festival of NIT Silchar.This fest falls in the month of October. Here we see young and energetic minds showing their skills. Various events like Robotics, Paper Presentations, Quizzes & lots of exciting events take place for a span of three days.
  • Thundermarch – Thundermarch is the annual metal fest of NIT Silchar. It falls in the month of February-March along with Incandescence and features enthralling and earth-shaking performances by various metal bands from India as well as famous international bands.
  • Posua – POSUA is the annual celebration of RONGALI BIHU in NIT Silchar that marks the beginning of the Hindu Solar Calender Year. It is a showcase of Assamese culture and features performances such as the traditional Bihu and other cultural performances by famous Assamese personalities. It is generally held in the month of April.
