CSAB Vacant Seats 2026 Special Rounds is now released today through the official website at csab.nic.in. The CSAB Special Round is being conducted for admissions to the vacant seats at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs after the completion of the JoSAA Counselling 2026 Round 5.The authorities have released the CSAB Special Round Counselling 2026 dates for candidates to follow accordingly and prepare for the admission process. Candidates shall register, exercise choice filling & locking, seat allotment, and seat acceptance process as well as fee payment online.
CSAB Special Round Counselling 2026 commenced on July 28, and the data on vacant seats was released by the admission authority. Surprisingly, the number of vacant seats has been higher than in the last 3 years. This year, 15,423 seats are vacant in NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. While the number of seats in NITs and IIITs is low, GFTIs have the maximum vacant seats. Among GFTIs, BIT Mesra has 678 vacant seats, followed by 493 in the School of Studies in Engineering & Technology, GGV Bilaspur; 489 in Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar; 477 in Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET); and 352 in IIIT Senapati, Manipur. 114 institutes are participating in the special round counselling.

CSAB Vacant Seats 2026 for Special Round
The CSAB Special Round 2026 offers one of the biggest opportunities for JEE Main aspirants to secure admission in prestigious NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs after the completion of JoSAA counselling. According to the latest official vacancy data, more than 15,000 seats are available for the CSAB Special Rounds, making it the highest number of vacant seats in recent years. Around 5,200+ seats are vacant in National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 3,800+ seats in Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and over 6,400 seats in Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).
This represents a significant increase compared to 13,727 vacant seats in 2025 and 12,758 vacant seats in 2024, highlighting the growing admission opportunities for students with a wide range of JEE Main ranks. Candidates must complete their choice filling by 3 August, while the Tentative (Mock) Seat Allotment will be published on 31 July, allowing them to review and modify their preferences before the final allotment. Students are advised to carefully analyze the institute-wise vacant seat matrix, previous year cutoff trends, branch availability, and expected closing ranks to maximize their chances of securing admission through the CSAB Counselling 2026.

The CSAB Special Round 2026 schedule has been officially released for candidates participating through DASA (UG) and CSAB Special Rounds. The counselling process includes multiple stages such as category restoration requests, registration, fee payment, choice filling, mock allotment, seat allotment results, online reporting, document verification, and physical reporting at allotted institutes.
Candidates must carefully follow each deadline to avoid disqualification from the admission process. The counselling process starts with category restoration requests from 22 July 2026 , Online Registration will begin from 28th July 2026 and continues through physical reporting until 18 August 2026. Students participating in the CSAB Special Rounds should regularly check the official portal for updates regarding document verification queries, seat acceptance formalities, and institute reporting schedules. Missing important deadlines such as registration closure, choice locking, online reporting, or fee payment may result in cancellation of the allotted seat.

Fee Adjustment Rules
- Out of the Special Round Enrollment Fee, ₹4,000 is the Processing Fee which is non-refundable and non-adjustable in the fee of the allotted Institute.
- Special Round Enrollment Fee (after deduction of ₹4,000) and Seat Acceptance Fee paid by the candidates will be adjusted in the Institute Fee.
- For candidates who have deposited the Fee in any of the IITs, if allotted a seat in the Special Round, the fee deposited during JoSAA rounds will NOT be adjusted in the fee of the newly allotted Institute in Special Round. Such candidates will have to claim their fee from IITs as per the refund policy of IITs.

Refund Policy
- If a candidate opts to withdraw the seat allotted in NIT+System in JoSAA rounds and does not participate in Special Rounds counseling, his/her Seat Acceptance Fee will be refunded back after deducting Rs. 7,000.
- If no seat is allotted to a candidate (who is NOT already holding any seat) in the Special Rounds, his/her Participation Fee will be refunded back after deducting the processing fee of Rs. 4,000.
- If no seat is allotted to the candidate (who is NOT already holding any seat) in the Special Round-I and the candidate withdraws from Special Round-II, his/her Participation Fee will be refunded after deducting the processing fee of Rs. 4,000.
- If a candidate gets a seat allotted in Special Round-I and his/her seat gets cancelled (due to reasons specified here), his/her Participation Fee and Seat Acceptance Fee (if paid) will be refunded back after deducting Rs. 7,000.
- If a candidate gets a seat allotted in Special Round-I (or retains the seat secured in JoSAA rounds) and opts for “Surrender”, and does not get a seat in Special Round-II, his/her Participation Fee and Seat Acceptance Fee (if paid) will be refunded back after deducting Rs. 7,000.
- If a candidate gets a seat allotted in Special Round-I (or retains the seat secured in JoSAA rounds) and opts for “Withdraw”, his/her Participation Fee and Seat Acceptance Fee (if paid) will be refunded back after deducting Rs. 7,000.
- If a candidate gets a seat allotted in Special Round-I and his/her seat gets cancelled due to ineligibility or in-appropriate document noticed during document verification, his/her Participation Fee and Seat Acceptance Fee (if paid) will be refunded back after deducting Rs. 7,000.
- If a seat is allotted up to Special Round-II (i.e. seat allotted in JoSAA/Special Round-I and retained for next round OR seat allotted afresh in Special Round-II), his/her Participation Fee and Seat Acceptance Fee (if paid) will not be refunded whether the candidate joins the allotted Institute or not. The fee of such candidates will be transferred to the Allotted Institute.
- If a candidate has been allotted a seat in Special Round-II and his/her seat cancelled due to ineligibility or in-appropriate document, his/her participation fee and Seat Acceptance Fee (if paid) will not be refunded.

Candidates who have registered or not registered for the previous JoSAA counselling 2022 are eligible for registrations for the CSAB Special Round 2022. Until the vacant seats are released, candidates may refer to the previous year’s opening and closing ranks for reference.The registration process began on October 26, along with the registration fee payment window. Candidates may register before the last date to participate in the process, October 28, 2022. The choice filling and locking window will open on October 29, 2022. As per the choices filled by the candidates, the Seat Allotment will be released on October 30, 2022. The online seat acceptance process will also begin from October 30, 2022, to November 1, 2022.
