JEE Main 2026 January – Final Marks vs Percentile (Shift-wise)

The difficulty level of JEE Main 2026 January shifts can be analyzed more accurately by comparing the marks required at different percentiles (99, 95, 93 cutoff, and 85 percentile). A shift where students needed lower marks across multiple percentiles is considered tougher, while higher marks indicate an easier paper. This multi-percentile comparison gives a fairer picture than using only 99 percentile marks.

Based on the final normalized data, 22 January Shift 2 emerged as the toughest shift, whereas 21 January Shift 2 was the easiest. Such variation happens due to differences in paper difficulty, question length, subject-wise weightage, and time pressure. Students should always evaluate their performance based on the relative difficulty of their own shift, as NTA normalization balances these differences while preparing final percentiles.
