JEE Main 2026 January – Shift-wise Dropped Questions / Multiple Correct
The JEE Main 2026 January session witnessed a few dropped questions and multiple-correct questions across different shifts due to ambiguous wording, printing errors, or multiple valid answers after official review. In some shifts, 1–2 questions were dropped, while in others, multiple-correct answers were accepted, including a case where all options were correct (Maths). Such changes directly impact normalization, marks calculation, and percentile outcome, and are completely normal in large-scale exams conducted across multiple shifts. Candidates appearing for JoSAA counselling 2026 should always rely on the final NTA answer key and official response sheet corrections, as these decisions ensure fairness for all students across easy and tough shifts. JEE Main 2026 January – Final Marks vs Percentile (Shift-wise)
The difficulty level of JEE Main 2026 January shifts can be analyzed more accurately by comparing the marks required at different percentiles (99, 95, 93 cutoff, and 85 percentile). A shift where students needed lower marks across multiple percentiles is considered tougher, while higher marks indicate an easier paper. This multi-percentile comparison gives a fairer picture than using only 99 percentile marks.
Based on the final normalized data, 22 January Shift 2 emerged as the toughest shift, whereas 21 January Shift 2 was the easiest. Such variation happens due to differences in paper difficulty, question length, subject-wise weightage, and time pressure. Students should always evaluate their performance based on the relative difficulty of their own shift, as NTA normalization balances these differences while preparing final percentiles.
| Difficulty Rank | Date & Shift | 99%ile | 95%ile | 93%ile Cutoff | 85%ile | Overall Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Jee Main 2026 January Expected Rank vs Marks vs Percentile
This JEE Main 2026 marks vs percentile table is based on expert analysis and historical percentile trends, and the final NTA results, percentiles, ranks, and cutoffs may vary after official normalization. The expected marks shown for 99 percentile, 95 percentile, 93 percentile cutoff, and 85 percentile are approximate estimates and may vary by ±5 marks depending on normalization, score distribution, and overall performance of candidates in each shift. Therefore, these values should be treated as indicative ranges, not official cutoffs. Students can use this shift-wise difficulty comparison to set realistic score targets, fairly evaluate their performance across shifts, and plan their preparation for upcoming sessions or JEE Advanced with better clarity.
