Syllabus differences in JEE Main and JEE Advanced

Chemicals in food – Preservatives, artificial sweetening agents – common examples.
Cleansing agents – Soaps and detergents, cleansing action
Topics included in JEE Main but not in JEE Advanced Maths
- Sets, Relations and Functions: Sets and their representation; Union, intersection and complement of sets and their algebraic properties; power set; relation, Types of relations, equivalence relations
- Statistics and Probability: Measures of Dispersion; calculation of mean, median. Mode of grouped and ungrouped data calculation of standard deviation, variance and mean deviation for grouped and ungrouped data.
- Trigonometry: Heights and Distances
- Mathematical Reasoning: Statements, logical operations and, or, implies, implied by, if and only if. Understanding of tautology, contradiction, converse and contra positive.
JEE Main vs JEE Advanced : General Differences
Having covered the syllabus differences in JEE Main and JEE Advanced, let’s take a look of other differences between the two.
Marks obtained in JEE Advance will be the criteria to get into the renowned Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Students must know the difference between the JEE Main exam, which is conducted by the CBSE, and the JEE Advanced, which is conducted by the IITs. The main differences between the two are:
- JEE Main helps those candidates who wish have a degree in BE or B.Tech courses in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) and engineering colleges of the participating states. The JEE Main is also the eligibility test that gives the students a chance to appear in the the JEE Advanced exam which will eventually lead to admission in either the IITs or the Indian School of Mines (ISM).
- The JEE Main is conducted with an option of two papers, namely, Paper 1 and Paper 2. The Paper 1 is for those students who wants an admission in BE and B.Tech courses and Paper 2 is for those who want admission in B.Arch and B.Planning courses. While Paper 1 can be taken via both online and offline mode, Paper 2 is held only offline. While applying for the JEE Main exam, the candidates must specify if they want to appear for Paper 1 or Paper 2 or both.
- JEE Advanced, on the other hand, is strictly paper-based. The candidates must sit for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in this exam to get admission into engineering courses. Selection of the candidates is decided on the basis of the All India Rank (AIR) secured by them in the JEE Advanced exam.
- While JEE Main can be taken 3 consecutive times, JEE Advanced can only be taken for 2 consecutive years.
