Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is a public central university in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Established in 1920, AMU is affiliated with UGC and a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The NAAC also accredits it with an ‘A+’ grade. According to the NIRF 2024 rankings, AMU ranked 16 overall in India. In global rankings, it has been placed in the 601 band by Times Higher Education (2024). AMU is also ranked 1001 at the global level by the QS World University Rankings 2023. At AMU, most of the staff and students are residing on campus where there are 19 residence halls for students and 80 hostels. AMU has off-campuses in Murshidabad (West Bengal), Malappuram (Kerala), and Kishanganj (Bihar).
AMU offers more than 300 courses in the traditional and modern branches of education. Apart from the common courses like BA, B.Voc., BSc, etc, the university is also popular for its B.Tech and MBBS program. Admission to courses is based on the Departmental Admission Test and the Entrance Exam conducted by AMU. AMU Admission Process
AMU admissions are conducted via online mode only. The university conducts admissions for UG and PG courses through single-window counseling in which a number of applicants applied for admissions. Admissions to the majority of the AMU courses are done based on the scores obtained in the entrance examination followed by a counseling process. AMU Distance Education
AMU Centre of Distance Education offers admissions to distance education to its number of courses such as UG, PG, Diploma, etc. Admissions to all those courses are done through a merit basis prepared by the university officials. AMU Result
AMU conducts examinations for their courses in the month of June or July. The results for the examination will be released soon on their website. AMU Placement
AMU placements 2025 report has not been officially released yet, but data from the NIRF 2025 report provides useful insights. In 2023–24, UG (3-year) courses had a median package of INR 5.75 LPA, with 352 students placed out of 2,781 qualified. UG (4-year) programs recorded a median package of INR 6 LPA, with 354 out of 380 students placed, showing a high placement rate. For UG (5-year) courses, the median package was INR 8.23 LPA, and 258 students were placed out of 492.
Among postgraduate courses at AMU, PG (1-year) saw 82 placements out of 198 qualified, with a median package of INR 4.97 LPA in 2023-24. PG (2-year) courses recorded 501 placements from 2,172 students, with a median salary of INR 8.47 LPA. PG (3-year) programs had the highest median package of INR 14.64 LPA, with 221 students placed out of 242.
